'Hero' Police Officer Makes Appearance At DAMAGEPLAN Benefit Concert

January 18, 2005

Columbus Police Officer James D. Niggemeyer made a brief appearance on stage during BOBAFLEX's set at the Jan. 14 benefit concert held at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, with all proceeds helping the families of two local victims of the DAMAGEPLAN concert shooting, Erin Halk and Nathan Bray. The crowd's response was reportedly overwhelming with cheers and chants of "Hero" as Niggemeyer shook hands with the members of the band, modestly waved, and then graciously disappeared.

Niggemeyer, a five-year veteran of the force, is widely credited for saving lives on Dec. 8 when he entered Alrosa Villa without backup and killed a crazed gunman responsible for blowing away four people, including former PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott.

During the benefit concert last Friday, BOBAFLEX debuted a brand new song called "The Guardian", which was written in honor of Niggemeyer. In addition to their regular set, the band performed several songs from their upcoming album, tentatively entitled "Bright red Violent Sex", to be released later this year via Eclipse Records.
