Heavy Metal Helps A Heavy Cause: Video Available

July 9, 2005

Mick Trevey of Wisconsin's WBAY-TV is reporting that heavy metal music set the stage Saturday (July 9) for a night of remembering a two-year-old girl who was killed by her 22-year-old stepfather because he got angry that she didn't clean her room.

Friends of the toddler's biological father are trying to raise money to pay the girl's medical and funeral bills. Saturday, heavy metal rock bands pitched in to help the family.

The bands played at Gothum City Bat Cave in Manitowoc. Money was collected at a table. Candles were sold to raise more money and there was also a raffle to help a hurting family.

"It's kind of hard to explain. You really don't have the words to comfort someone like that. This is our way of saying 'We're here and we're good friends,'" co-organizer Nolan Gaiovnik said.

"All his friends feel hopeless," co-organizer Carlos Fuentes said. "We feel if we do something like this, it will at least give us some satisfaction knowing we did something about it."

In all, nine bands volunteered their time. Some drove from the Chicago area hoping the benefit can bag big profits.

"I still am kind of like, wow, I can't believe it happened, because he always wanted to hang out with his kids no matter what," friend and DARK AWAKENING singer Brian Huguelet said.

Donations are being accepted at the Riverwood-Maritime Credit Union in Two Rivers. Mail donations to:
