GUNS N' ROSES' 'Democracy' Banned In China: Video Report Available

November 24, 2008

New Tang Dynasty Television has posted a one-and-a-half-minute video report on the alleged ban of the new GUNS N' ROSES album, "Chinese Democracy", in China. Watch the clip below.

Although rampant piracy will probably come into play, the album's content is not exactly music to the ears of the Chinese communist regime.

In the title track, singer Axl Rose says followers of the persecuted Falun Gong spiritual movement have "seen the end and you can't hold on now."

According to Reuters, the artwork includes Beijing artist Shi Lifeng's 2008 oil painting Red Star, which depicts the powerlessness of Chinese people in a state ruled by an iron fist. Photos of the Chinese military and the Hong Kong skyline also appear.

Commented Freddy Lim, leader of the Taiwanese black metal band CHTHONIC: "I think GUNS N' ROSES' new album shows the true rock spirit of the rock artist, of the rock culture, because we have to speak out loud our beliefs and our faith. If we believe in democracy, we believe in freedom, we should just speak out loud. GUNS N' ROSES has made a perfect example."

In America, the albums carried "parental advisory" labels warning consumers about explicit lyrics.
