Guitarists Being Called To London For World Record 'Smoke On The Water' Performance

Launch Radio Networks reports: Harrods department store in London is inviting guitarists to come down next week for a mass performance of DEEP PURPLE's "Smoke on the Water". The store is hoping to bring in 2,000 players for the event, in a bid to break the world record for most guitarists simultaneously playing one song. According to Harrods, the title is currently held by 1,322 people who got together in 1994 in Vancouver, British Columbia, to rock out on Ritchie Blackmore's classic riff. The jam will take place next Sunday (February 18) at 8 a.m., and the store will have complimentary ear plugs for everyone. All "proficient musicians" are welcome, and the only thing required is that you bring a guitar, whether acoustic or electric. For more information, go to Harrods.com and click on "Harrods Rocks."

Everyone who participates will get a commemorative T-shirt and guitar pick, and there will be giveaways during the event, including a new electric guitar.

Harrods is in the midst of their "Harrods Rocks" promotion, which includes a display of rare guitars and instruments owned by Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood from THE ROLLING STONES, the Edge from U2, Neil Young, Tony Iommi from BLACK SABBATH, Carlos Santana, and Peter Frampton, among others.
