GLENN HUGHES Receives Warm Welcome In Bulgaria

August 21, 2006

According to Novinite.com, DEEP PURPLE legend — and recovering alcoholic — Glenn Hughes received a bottle of Bulgarian red wine from a diehard fan (photo) upon his arrival in Bulgaria on Monday (August 21),media revealed.

Hughes arrived at the Varna Airport before heading for the small seaside town of Kavarna, which has emerged in recent years as Bulgaria's hotspot for hard rock gigs.

Bulgarian "Man Of The Year" and Mayor of Kavarna Tsonko Tsonev personally welcomed Hughes at the airport.

Hughes is headlining a special week-long event in Kavarna today (August 21) at the Kaliakra Stadium.

The event, translated as "The Week Of The Sea", a celebration of the people and region of the Black Sea, is organized by Tsonev. Tsonev was responsible for inviting Glenn for the New Year's Eve show in Karvarna, as well as being the man behind the concerts in Kavarna by such acts as WHITESNAKE, DEEP PURPLE and SCORPIONS.

Tsonev says: "I and the people of Bulgaria are very proud to be able to invite Glenn back to Kavarna again, and we are especially proud that, after sharing New Year's Eve with him, we will also be sharing Glenn's birthday with him during a time of celebration for the people of our region."

There is no admission for the concert. It is Tsonev's personal "thank you" to the people as part of the week-long celebration for the region, as well as being an open invitation for Glenn fans everywhere to come and experience the concert and Black Sea region of Bulgaria.

There is a possibility that Glenn will be shooting a video clip during his time in Bulgaria.

Hughes' latest solo album, "Music for the Divine", is available now on Frontiers Records. The CD was recorded in Chad Smith's (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS) house in Los Angeles and again features Smith on drums and longtime Glenn Hughes collaborator JJ Marsh on guitar. Also featured are RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS guitarist John Frusciante and Mark Killian, who has provided the string arrangements and keyboards.
