'Get Thrashed' Documentary Premieres In Washington, New Jersey And New York

May 16, 2007

The makers of "Get Thrashed: The Story of Thrash Metal" have announced three June screenings of the documentary — Saturday, June 2 at the Seattle True Independent Film Festival, Sunday, June 3 at the Hoboken International Film Festival and Friday, June 22 at the Staten Island Film Festival.

"The Los Angeles screening was a total blast, complete with artists from the film in the house and a loud, extremely energetic crowd singing along, seemingly determined to bring down the house," said director Rick Ernst. "The screenings in every city have been unbelievable — from bands performing live, fans screaming along to the soundtrack or special guests showing up — they have been amazing and I can't wait for more fans to 'Get Thrashed' from coast to coast in June."

"Get Thrashed: The Story of Thrash Metal" is the story of bands like METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX and how they, and others, pioneered a new form of heavy metal in the early 1980s. This new music was called "thrash metal" and many of the bands went from playing friends' parties and small clubs to touring the world and headlining arenas. Along the way, there were drugs, drinking, fights, deaths, mosh pits, leather jackets, long hair and most of all — groundbreaking new music. Eventually, the scene fell apart, but the seeds these bands planted gave rise to the new breed of extreme heavy metal we see and hear today.

"'Get Thrashed' made me feel like I was looking into a scrapbook of my musical life," said ANTHRAX bassist Frank Bello. "The film gets it right and makes you feel the vibe and pulse of this music that we all know and love."

The Seattle, WA screening of "Get Thrashed" will be on Saturday, June 2 at 2 PM at the Seattle Art Museum (1300 First Ave, Seattle, Washington 98101).
