GARY CHERONE: No Permanent EXTREME Reunion Planned

September 20, 2004

The Boston Herald is reporting that the WAAF morning man Greg Hill's 15th anniversary bash in Boston this weekend was highlighted by the EXTREME reunion — the first time Gary Cherone, Nuno Bettencourt and Paul Geary played together in 10 years.

Carl Restivo played bass; bassist Pat Badger did not make the scene.

"He wasn't invited," said Cherone. "That's all I want to say."

Apparently, a disagreement over the rights to the band's mega-hit "More Than Words" is at the root of the problem.

"There are internal issues, but we've always managed to keep them inhouse," Cherone acknowleged.

"But the implication was that he refused to play with us. You can only refuse if you've been asked."

Cherone, who had a short stint as lead singer for VAN HALEN, said he was "excited" to get back with his old bandmates and make some noise.

But he said the gig was "one-out," and not a permanent reunion.

Still, when Nuno comes through town next month with his new band, POPULATION 1, Gary said he plans to "invade his personal space."
