FOR RUIN has formally existed since late 2003. Based in Cork, Ireland, founding member John began playing a mixture of melodic black/death metal with strong harmonies, melodies and dynamics throughout. During 1998-2004, John wrote and demoed a number of tracks which finally found their way onto the split MEICHE/FOR RUIN demo.

FOR RUIN completed its second demo, "Shade", during winter 2005. In November 2005, Murphy was joined by three talented and energetic musicians and having completed an Irish tour with MAEL MORDHA in early February, 2006 as well as a number of other gigs, an appearance at the 2006 Day of Darkness festival was confirmed. A support slot with DECAPITATED followed.

In November 2006, Murphy was joined by drummer Barry English (CAPTAIN INSANO, I'LL EAT YOUR FACE),guitarist Drew Myers (ex-HALLOWED) and bassist Barry O'Sullivan (I'LL EAT YOUR FACE). The new promotional CD, "Obsidian", was released in limited quanities.

FOR RUIN filmed its performance at Winterfest 2006 on December 23, 2006 in its hometown of Cork for the "Live at Winterfest" DVD, which was released earlier in the year.
