FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's New Album 'Got Your Six' Was 'Designed For Maximum Intensity'

September 6, 2015

Metalhead Ned and Janna of the 97.9 WGRD radio station recently conducted an interview with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Jason Hook. You can now listen to the chat in the YouTube clip below.

Speaking about the more aggressive nature of the material on FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's sixth album, "Got Your Six", compared to that on the band's previous efforts, Hook said: "The last record [2013's 'The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell'] was actually two records — 'Volume 1' and '2' — and that was 25 five songs. And over a span of 25 songs, there was a lot of variety in flavor. So for this record, we thought, 'Let's just keep it potent and everything, sort of, uptempo and high energy.' Not to mention that one or two or three of the songs may make their way into the live set. And at this juncture, the only songs we really wanna add are the ones that are intense and high energy. So let's make sure that the whole album is that — that way, when we add songs to the set, by default, they're just uptempo and high energy."

He continued: "It's kind of along the same line with… I wouldn't say it's exactly like [FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's 2007 debut] 'The Way Of The Fist', but certainly on the tempo meter, nothing really dips too low — it's all designed for maximum intensity. Which is, I think… I think that's what people like from us anyway. I mean, those are always the fun ones that make you go, 'Yeah!'"

"Got Your Six" was released worldwide on September 4 via Prospect Park Records in North America and Eleven Seven Music internationally.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH singer Ivan Moody told The Pulse Of Radio why the title, a military term, works so well for the band. "It was just perfect, you know, because it started off with, you know, being the sixth album — you know, most people didn't expect us to have a second album, so it really went to that point," he said. "And then Zo [Zoltan Bathory, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist] kind of looked at it like, we've had each other's back for almost 10 years now and, you know, in the military, instead of saying, 'we got your back,' it's 'we got your six.' And since we also are affiliated with so much, you know, involvement in the military, it just seemed like a no-brainer."

The first single, called "Jekyll & Hyde", is currently No. 4 on the rock radio airplay chart.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH began a fall co-headlining tour with PAPA ROACH on Friday night, September 4 in Lexington, Kentucky, ending on October 9 in Glen Falls, New York. Also on the trek are IN THIS MOMENT and FROM ASHES TO NEW.
