FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's HOOK On Recording Covers: 'It's Always Fun To Try To Put A Spin On Something'

Baker of 99.7 The Blitz radio station conducted an interview with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Jason Hook at this year's Rock On The Range festival, which was held May 16-18 at the Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. You can now watch the chat below.

Asked about the fact that FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has recorded several successful cover versions over the years, including BAD COMPANY's "Bad Company", LL COOL J's "Mama Said Knock You Out', and their latest attempt, the classic folk song "The House Of The Rising Sun", Hook said: "The cover-song thing is kind of, like… Music is music. Just because we write music and we release our own records doesn't mean that we don't enjoy playing other music. And it's always fun to try to put a spin on something. If we do something, we try to make it a little different than the original. 'The House Of The Rising Sun', originally, is in 3/4 time [signature]. We did it in 4/4. For all you music people that don't know what the hell…"

As previously reported, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will "absolutely" do an acoustic tour, according to frontman Ivan Moody. Speaking with a local North Carolina radio station at the Carolina Rebellion festival earlier this month, Moody was asked about the chances of the band going out unplugged. He replied, "We are absolutely going to do an acoustic tour. We are, sincerely. We sat down and talked about it. We're not sure when we're gonna do it. We're looking at probably Christmas time and just doing, like, select few shows — like maybe 10 or 11 places."

Drummer Jeremy Spencer told The Pulse Of Radio that the band has experimented with doing acoustic versions of songs live. "We've done that with a couple of songs," he said. "Certainly 'Battle Born', we do a whole different arrangement of that where it's mainly acoustic and then it kind of kicks in with the band at the end, and we do 'Remember Everything' pretty much all acoustic live, just Jason and Ivan. So we definitely experiment with that stuff."

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and VOLBEAT are teaming up for a fall North American co-headlining tour, it was announced on May 6. The trek, which will also feature support acts HELLYEAH and NOTHING MORE, gets underway on September 15 in Salt Lake City, winding down on October 24 in Las Vegas.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH is touring behind its two 2013 releases, "The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell", Parts 1 and 2.

Both "Part 1" and "Part 2" of "The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell" debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard album chart last year.

The two sets have spawned three Top 10 rock singles: "Lift Me Up", "Battle Born" and the band's version of "House Of The Rising Sun". At least one or two more tracks may possibly be issued as singles in the next couple of months.
