Fans Turn Rowdy At POISON Concert
June 27, 2003Tom Morton of Casper Star-Tribune reports that a lot of fans at Tuesday night's (June 24) POISON concert at the Casper Events Center in Casper, Wyoming turned rowdy and engaged in dope-smoking, judging from the police log of arrests Wednesday morning.
Good rock bands will pump up a crowd and smooth out the emotional fire by the end of the show, Casper Police Sgt. Larry Baker said.
Fans leave content and no one gets hurt, he added.
But the lousy ones get a crowd riled up, and the fans get angry and leave that way, said Baker, who's worked security at scores of concerts.
Police observed lots of fights at the concert featuring POISON, SKID ROW, and MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman Vince Neil, Baker said.
Events Center security also ejected fans who insisted on expressing their musical enthusiasm by punching their fellow fans, he said. "There was a whole ton of others where were kicked out the door."
But ejection wasn't good enough for some fans, apparently, because the police log noted that three arrests were made on assault charges.
Besides the alleged assaults, the log noted one arrest for each of the following matters: violation of the Family Violence Protection Act, hit and run, a "report every drunk driver immediately," theft, and vandalism.
The problem isn't only rock 'n' roll and whether people like it, Baker added. It's his unscientific observation that more fights occur at some country Western concerts, he said.
