Ex-MARILYN MANSON Guitarist Talks About Release Of Early Recordings
May 8, 2004Former MARILYN MANSON guitarist Scott Putesky (a.k.a. Daisy Berkowitz) has spoken to the Associated Press about the release of "Lunch Boxes & Choklit Cows", a compact disc of recordings made in the early 1990s when the band was known as THE SPOOKY KIDS. Prior to the release of Manson's 1994 debut, "Portrait of an American Family", THE SPOOKY KIDS — Berkowitz, Manson (then Brian Warner),Madonna Wayne Gacy (Stephen Bier) and Gidget Gein (Brad Stewart) — recorded such songs as "Meat for a Queen", "White Knuckles" and eight other tracks that comprise the album.
"It's material written at a time when we didn't feel any kind of pressure or any responsibility to deliver a commercial musical product," Scott said. "We were just having fun and doing it for its own sake, which makes it a little more pure and genuine - and real."
Putesky left the band in 1996 but held on to the early recordings because he knew they would be valuable.
"It's exciting for me, because it takes me back to a time when I didn't think anything would come of it," he told AP Radio recently.
Putesky said not all the stories about Manson, known for his outrageous and controversial performances, or other band members are true.
"There are stories that are true but they're not told the right way," he said. "I guess about 30 percent are just complete fabrication and rumor created by fans or whoever."
