Ex-KISS Guitarist On Being Shot: I Was Thinking About Selling My Pants On EBAY

January 28, 2004

Former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick spoke to Australia's Beat magazine about being shot in the leg and grazed by a bullet to the head outside the Rainbow Bar and Grill nightclub on Los Angeles' famed Sunset Strip last October.

"Well, considering what happened, I guess you can say I'm doing pretty well," he said. "Apparently someone got really upset with the bouncer, went back to his car, got a 9-mm pistol and started shooting it around the place. Now I'm half a block away, so I really wasn't anywhere near the place. I'm walking on the street going back to my car when all of a sudden I felt something on my leg, and all I'm thinking is that bullets are going to be flying soon. I heard the sound, but it happened so quickly. One of the bullets went right through the thigh on my right leg, and the other kind of grazed my head. Obviously it wasn't really comfortable, but I was very fortunate considering how bad something like that could have been if it was a few inches either way."

When suggested that the bullet that grazed his temple would have been the scarier of the two injuries, Kulick was quick to agree.

"Exactly! That was the one I was really concerned about at first. I heard the bullet, but only when it grazed my temple did I realize it was a bullet. When something happened to my leg, I thought maybe it was a backfire from a car, or a firecracker. I didn't even know that a bullet passed through my leg. It took about another ten minutes when I sat down and the paramedics came over and we were looking down at my leather pants and we saw there was a hole in them. That was so disappointing too. My pair of leather pants was ruined because of the incident! I would like to bill somebody for that! (Laughs) Unfortunately, the detectives have the pants because it's part of the case against this guy. It's a pity too because I could imagine those particular pants being one of the major drawcards at any of the KISS Expos. I was even thinking of eBay-ing them! (Laughs)"

Kulick will be embarking on a short Australian tour early next month.
