Ex-CRADLE OF FILTH Bassist DAVE PYBUS Spearheads New Independent Metal Label

March 22, 2005

Former CRADLE OF FILTH bassist Dave Pybus has announced the formation of Sixsixsix Records, a modern independent metal label utilizing every means possible to spread metal music — including the web, downloading, eBay and MySpace, coupled with the more conventional uses of distribution, band live performance, advertising and press.

The current state of the record business in 2005 made the label want to give better deals for young bands, holding true to their "independent" metal stance. Label co-founder Tim Fraser, who has managed the likes of CHRISTIAN DEATH and THEATRES DES VAMPIRES, formed the company along with Paul Beavis. Having a wealth of technical expertise, the duo recognized an opportunity to join forces with the direct intention to try and improve undergound metal bands' chances of getting a foothold in the scene. Then Dave Pybus joined the label, instantly adding inside experience, as Dave had worked for Peaceville Records in the early 1990s.

"I really wanted to get involved in the other side of putting records out again," Dave said in a statement. "Been a few years now since I've been in this position to actually put some other music out that I like. It's going to be a lot of fun and very rewarding helping younger bands start out with a debut album. No one knows them yet and you have a clean sheet to begin with. It's all very exciting."

He continued: "When I heard the quality of the first few bands the label had signed, I was astounded! The high level of musicianship and quality recordings on such restricted budgets gave me a lot of faith again in the business. I just wanted to get involved in anyway possible. The initial deals we have struck with each band are unconventional in the fact that it's swung more in the bands favour. The label has encouraged minimal budgets at first, to keep the bands within a realistic recoupment position. For both label and band that's positive, we get to move onto other new and exciting acts quicker while the bands we have can grow at a healthy pace."

Sixsixsix has two albums being released on May 23: symphonic black metallers DRACONIAN ORDER's debut "In Absence of Light" and the "Blood 'N' Roll" debut from Italian goth rockers BLOODY MARY.

The label has two seperate launch nights at London's Camden Underworld. The first is on Thursday, April 14, featuring guest headliners HECATE ENTHRONED, DRACONIAN ORDER and new Sixsixsix death metal signings DORETERNA from London. The second night is Friday, April 29, this time featuring THEATRES DES VAMPIRES, BLOODY MARY and THE FACES OF SARAH.
