EDGUY Set Working Title For New CD

May 24, 2003

German melodic metallers EDGUY have set "Mysteria" as the working title for their next studio album, tentatively due in early 2004 through AFM Records. "We'll have some great surprises for you, so stay tuned," EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet wrote on the band's official web site regarding the new material. "Musically it's gonna sound like EDGUY (what else?!),epic, heavy, melodic... But there will be some little new elements, For example, one of the new elements is gonna have 70 heads and is called the 'Babelsberger Filmorchestera'. This is Germany's biggest movie-score orchestra, a real symphonic orchestra which is plays soundtracks for movies, but which has already worked with some bands, e.g. THE SCORPIONS... It was a dream of mine to work with a real orchestra instead of keyboards all the time. But don't be afraid, we're not gonna do a boring or even -worst case- 'mature' classic-meets-rock album as some may be afraid of. It's gonna be heavy and it's gonna be just supported by the orchestra. No Vivaldi ballerina shit for men in pink tights, but an epic piece of 'Braveheart' metal... :) Sounds pathetic, but that's exactly the way I should describe it."

EDGUY, whose last CD, "Mandrake", was released in 2001, will issue their first-ever double live album, "Burning Down The Opera", on June 2 through AFM Records. "We can't wait to hear [the fans'] opinions about it and especially the reactions of [their] performance on the album," Sammet wrote. "Be sure that the whole thing is more than just an alibi-live-disc-in-between. Imagine the raw, energetic kick-ass live versions of our studio albums and you may know what to expect from the stuff. Plus we have included a picture booklet with all the lyrics and more than 150 pictures from the tour. You'll see more than some of us dudes would probably want you to :) Lately many people kept asking why we don't play more live shows to support 'Burning Down The Opera', or maybe even a tour. We can't tell you how much we miss touring. We have even started chewing off our toe-nails because of the boredom! The band is in a great shape right now and there is a great spirit and mood in the rehearsing room amongst us. And I think this will get us even more hungry for our next 'real' tour. And besides this, I think we have a good reason not to tour these days: We are right now writing and arranging material for the next studio album, probably being released early 2004."

In other news, Sammet has been tapped to sing on the forthcoming album from AINA, the new project spearheaded by acclaimed German producer Sascha Paeth (KAMELOT, ANGRA, RHAPSODY).

Sammet will reportedly appear on at least one song — an as-yet-undisclosed track that was previously meant to include the vocals of former HELLOWEEN and current SUPARED frontman Michael Kiske.

The AINA debut, which is said to have "nothing to do with heavy metal," is expected to surface in late 2003 through an as-yet-undetermined label.
