When recently asked by On Track Magazine how DROWNING POOL's music will stand the test of time, guitarist C.J. Pierce responded, "The one thing that DROWNING POOL has always been about, if you take five seconds and listen to the record, is; we're a rock band. Mike thinks we're a hard rock band, whatever you want to call it. If you grew up in the 80’s anybody from POISON to MÖTLEY CRÜE to METALLICA was called metal. It wasn't separated until now, it was just all metal. So we like to think of ourselves influenced by metal bands, but I guess nowadays it's more of a hard rock because what they call metal is like HATEBREED and stuff like that. So I don't know what you want to call it but our record came out in the height of nu-metal, which nu-metal is rap-type like PAPA ROACH or like LINKIN PARK with a little rap to it, and like ADEMA. There's no rap in our songs and there's guitar solos which is another thing. Our music style is definitely not nu-metal; it's just that we came out at that time. So call it nu-metal if you want and that's fine, call it whatever you want, but it's not that style of music. You listen to an AC/DC record and you listen to a DROWNING POOL record and you can see what we're influenced by; it's rock music."
