DREAM THEATER Drummer Jams With MEGADETH, Says 'Goodbye' To GIGANTOUR

September 5, 2005

DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy joined MEGADETH on stage for a rendition of "Peace Sells" during the two bands' joint appearance at the Toronto stop of the Gigantour festival tour on Saturday (September 3). MEGADETH skinsman Shawn Drover reportedly played guitar alongside brother Glen while Portnoy sat behind Shawn's kit.

The Toronto show marked DREAM THEATER's final show on the Gigantour before being replaced for the remainder of the trek by ANTHRAX.

Portnoy posted the following message in the "Forums" section of Gigantour.com regarding his band's departure from the tour:

"Well, tonight in Toronto marks our last show on Gigantour

"It's been a fun ride for us….surely very different from the packages we've been involved with in the past.

"It was a great tour and we made a lot of new friends and fans along the way!

"Thanks to all you great fans for coming out and helping break in this maiden voyage of Gigantour.

"Thanks to all the great bands and crews on this tour: BOBAFLEX, DRY KILL LOGIC, NEVERMORE, LIFE OF AGONY, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SYMPHONY X, FEAR FACTORY and MEGADETH. So many top-notch musicians and very cool people.

"And a special thanks to my good friend Dave Mustaine for putting this whole shindig together, for sharing the co-headlining spot with us and for being so gracious to me, my band, my crew and my family.

"Hope to see some of you on the upcoming '20th Anniversary / Evening With Dream Theater' shows throughout the fall/winter/spring…

"In the meantime, we can all look foward to re-living this summer on the upcoming Gigantour DVD coming soon!"
