DOWN Joined By VENOM Guitarist At Newcastle Gig

May 25, 2006

A BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor by the name of Chris Flynn has submitted the following report:

"DOWN blazed through a storming set tonight [May 25] at [the U.K.'s] Newcastle University. Despite rumours, there was no temper tantrums or storming off, Phil [Anselmo, vocals; ex-PANTERA] visibly loved every minute of it, the band was tight as I have ever heard any band be and they dedicated a song to VENOM, all of which were in attendance. All of this was being filmed for the DVD and the crowd went absolutely berserk throughout.

"When the second or third encore was played, the final number, 'Bury Me In Smoke', Kirk [Windstein, guitar; also in CROWBAR] swapped his axe for a beer bottle with VENOM guitarist Mike 'Mykus' Hickey and he jammed with them on this last number. It was a sight to behold, Mykus and Pepper [Keenan, DOWN guitarist; also in CORROSION OF CONFORMITY] nose to nose!"

As previously reported, Keenan revealed during DOWN's appearance at the Rock City in Nottingham, U.K. on Wednesday (May 24) that they have been confirmed for this year's Download festival, set to take place June 9-11 at Donington Park, Leicestershire, England. The group kicked off their first-ever European tour on May 19 and are expected to remain on the road until mid-June.

DOWN have announced that they will be filming shows on their spring/summer European tour for an upcoming DVD. The band will also begin work on new material shortly after returning home from the trek and are tentatively planning on entering the studio in September to begin recording their third album.

DOWN's sophomore album, "Down II", was released in March 2002 on Elektra Records. The band headlined the second stage at the 2002 Ozzfest.
