DIO DISCIPLES Rocks 'Monsters Of Rock' Cruise, Raises Money For Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund

March 28, 2013

Due to "unforeseen circumstances," singer Tim "Ripper" Owens (JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) was unable to join his bandmates in DIO DISCIPLES on the Monsters Of Rock cruise, which embarked on its second voyage March 16 and returned four days later. Filling in for Owens in DIO DISCIPLES on the Monsters Of Rock cruise was former YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, ROYAL HUNT and ULI JON ROTH vocalist Mark Boals.

Fan-filmed video footage of DIO DISCIPLES' performance can be seen below.

DIO DISCIPLES is the group which pays tribute to legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW, DIO, HEAVEN & HELL) and is fully supported by Dio's widow/manager, Wendy Dio. In addition to Owens, DIO DISCIPLES' current lineup includes Scott Warren (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL) on keyboards, Oni Logan (LYNCH MOB) on vocals, Craig Goldy (DIO) on guitar, Bjorn Englen (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) on bass and Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO, RHINO BUCKET, UFO) on drums.

Says Wendy Dio: "We want to thank Larry Morand, Mike London, Harlan Hendrickson, Joe Wright, Billy Deavers and all the staff and WONDERFUL fans on the Monsters Of Rock cruise! DIO DISCIPLES put on an AMAZING SHOW!"

In addition to a great set by the band, the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund raised over $16,500 for cancer research, education and to help find a cure. Some of the events that raised funds for the charity on the ship were a live auction that featured a signed Tony Iommi Gibson guitar, ESP guitar, Schecter guitar, Dio memorabilia, memorial T-shirts and wristbands and a Ronnie James Dio photo book! Rock Star Bingo was a huge success that featured members of DIO DISCIPLES, STRYPER, Y&T, CINDERELLA and Eddie Trunk calling Bingo numbers. 100% of the proceeds raised from these events go directly to the charity.
