DINO CAZARES: FEAR FACTORY Had Been Betraying Me Since The 'Demanufacture' Album

August 25, 2007

Planet-Loud.com recently conducted an interview with DIVINE HERESY/ex-FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

Planet-Loud.com: So what happened with that then, how did you feel about them reforming, but with your place being taken?

Dino: It was kind of a weird situation, because you know Burt. Burt came up to me and he said he didn't wanna play in a band with me anymore then he quit and so on and so on and he just walked into the rehearsal room one day and said, "Hey I don't wanna play with you anymore, I quit," and I'm like, "OK." After that the band pretty much broke up, a few months later they decided to bring it back without me.

Planet-Loud.com: Crap, so did the band let you know about it?

Dino: Yeah, well Raymond did, I was like, "OK." It seemed kind of suspicious; know what I mean? So I was just like, "OK, whatever."

Planet-Loud.com: It must have been hard, being one of the founding members along with Raymond?

Dino: Yeah, me and Raymond were the founding members, I actually brought Burt into the band, and I also brought Christian into it too.

Planet-Loud.com: So you felt very betrayed by them.

Dino: Very much so, but you know, they had been pretty much betraying me since the "Demanufacture" (1995 album) days. When we were doing the record "Demanufacture", I wanted to go with a different producer and they wanted to go with Colin Richardson and they realised how different of an idea Colin Richardson had in production, from how we were going, so they decided to finally give in to what I wanted to do and that was to go with Rhys Fulber and Greg Reilly to produce the record.

Planet-Loud.com: So they had to swallow their pride and do it.

Dino: Exactly. But you know... Anyways, yeah it was a bit sad for a few months because you know it was a huge part of my life but it gave me an opportunity to complete a few other projects I had been working on.

Planet-Loud.com: Well, anyways screw them; you've got your own band now to focus on.

Dino: Yeah, I mean I'm not gonna sit here and whine about it, I'm not gonna cry neither, I don't regret anything I've done in that band and I believe I innovated a certain sound that people like.

Planet-Loud.com: Good, well having heard your new album with DIVINE HERESY, I personally believe it consists of more brutality and passion than anything of what FEAR FACTORY have done, it is a just a purely awesome album.

Dino: I think that was something that was lacking on the last two records. I think since I've been gone, people know I was definitely the driving force of the band and it clearly shows on the DIVINE HERESY album. I picked two really good musicians to help me make this record — me and Tim Yeung — I had been toying with the idea of a new band since I like 2002, since I left FEAR FACTORY. I had been like searching for musicians but I had so many other commitments with the other projects, I kept putting it on hold until finally some of the other musicians I was working with were like screw it, were gonna go play with someone else, you're taking too long. So when it came to 2005 I decided OK I'm gonna sit down, and I'm really gonna concentrate on this project and really see it through. So I picked Tim Yeung who is a technical death metal drummer, but he also plays a lot of other stuff too. He has toured with Hank Williams III (which is a country band) but he also played in NILE, VITAL REMAINS, HATE ETERNAL, so he is a versatile drummer.
