DEF LEPPARD Frontman Talks About Upcoming Live Album In Video Interview

DEF LEPPARD frontman Joe Elliott told the Artisan News Service this past summer that the band is putting together a live album culled from its 2009 tour that may include some new material as well.

"In the old days, a band would call in the Rolling Stones Mobile [mobile recording studio owned by the musical group THE ROLLING STONES] and record a gig and hope that it worked well — and probably cheat and re-record it all," he explained. "In this day in age, you record every show onto a hard drive. So we've got the entire tour backed up onto three or four hard drives. So we have the unenviable task of listening to probably 50 versions of every song we've ever played. We've got our sound guy from the studio, who's a fanstastic engineer and a great co-producer, he's actually listening through to all the versions of the songs and kind of rating them on a 1-10 level of performance and excitement, if you like."

Elliott previously told Billboard.com about which songs may end up on the live album, "There'll be stuff from this century on it — 'Rock On', 'Nine Lives', 'Come On Come On'. Vivian [Campbell] has been in the band 17 years, so I think he deserves a shot at being on a live record. We've got a live video out from the Steve [Clark] era, [1989's] 'In the Round, In Your Face'; I've always said before that if you're desperate to hear us live, put that video on and turn your telly off and just listen to the sound."

"We've got tentative plans to do a four- or five-track EP of new songs as part of it," Elliott explained to Billboard.com, citing inspiration from previous concert releases such as KISS' "Alive II", IAN HUNTER's "Welcome to the Club" and GENESIS' "Three Sides Live", all of which included fresh songs.
