DEEP PURPLE: Rare 'Speed King' Promotional Video Posted At YouTube

June 18, 2007

A high-quality version of DEEP PURPLE's promotional video for the classic track "Speed King" has been posted at YouTube.

"Speed King" comes off DEEP PURPLE's fourth studio album — and the first with the classic Mk II lineup — "In Rock", which came out in 1970. All tracks on the LP are credited to the working efforts of the five members of the band. "Speed King" and "Flight of the Rat" are prime examples of hard rock songs, and the band's new style. "Child in Time" is perhaps the most famous song from this record. This song starts off as a ballad but then becomes a rocker with several solo improvisations and is famous for the high notes Ian Gillan hits in the song. Although "Into the Fire" and "Speed King" featured in the set lists at the time, "Child in Time" was the only song from this album that was included on "Made in Japan" two years later (although "Speed King" was the usual encore and is featured on the expanded CD reissue, as is "Black Night", which was included in the "In Rock" reissue).
