DAVE NAVARRO Says 'Rock Star' Reality TV Show Didn't Cause JANE'S ADDICTION Split

June 11, 2007

Former JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro has responded to singer Perry Farrell's claim that JANE'S ADDICTION began falling apart while Navarro started hosting the "Rock Star" reality series. "My band broke up basically over reality TV, and I just couldn't believe it," Farrell recently told Launch Radio Networks.

In a posting on his web site, Navarro wrote in response to Farrell's comments, "The timeline just doesn't make sense. I didn't even get a call about the idea of 'Rock Star' until THE PANIC CHANNEL was recording demos with Brian Virtue. Wait. What happened to this quote? [quoting Farrell from a previous interview] 'Music that was once relevant and graceful had become clumsy as a circus seal tooting his horns… JANE doesn't strip for anyone but me. I brought JANE'S ADDICTION to life, it is only fitting that I am the one to bury her.' Or this one? 'I haven't spoken to them (guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins) since they broke the band up. (They) never called me. They went to Rolling Stone to (talk) about their new project (THE PANIC CHANNEL). I read about it online.' OK. So which is it? 'Rock Star'? He broke it up? We did? Either way it was four years ago so I think it's about time to let it go."

Perry Farrell's new project, the SATELLITE PARTY, released its debut disc on May 29, titled "Ultra Payloaded". The band has scheduled a residency on "Last Call with Carson Daly" for June 12, June 13, June 14 and June 15. The group will also perform in August at Chicago's Lollapalooza festival, of which Farrell is one of the organizers.
