DAVE NAVARRO: JANE'S ADDICTION's Sound 'Was Never Complete' Without ERIC AVERY

Guitarist Dave Navarro of the reunited original lineup of JANE'S ADDICTION has issued the following update:

"After many years of different versions of JANE'S ADDICTION, [bassist] Eric Avery has re-claimed his position. We have had the honor of working with some great bass players over the years... Flea, Martyn Le Noble and Chris Chaney... But the JANE'S sound was never complete without Eric. With Eric holding down the bottom, the JANE'S rhythm section is once again complete. It's almost as if he and Perk [JANE'S ADDICTION drummer Stephen Perkins] live together symbiotically, to create a singular overwhelming sonic onslaught that ebbs and flows like a musical ocean. Perk and Avery not only bring out the best in each other, their ability to lock and weave with one another challenges and inspires me as a guitarist.

"Since our reformation, we have been spending a lot of time with Trent [Reznor, NINE INCH NAILS mainman] in the rehearsal studio and in the recording studio, working on new stuff, addressing some old stuff, and more importantly, creating a friendship and working relationship. It's rare that touring partners have an opportunity to spend so much time together creatively before a tour. Regardless of the collaborative outcome, our time with Trent has brought forth a new focus and sense of purpose that we plan to share with you on a nightly basis. NIN and JANE'S are vastly different bands, for sure, but we have always had a connection as a result of our time together on [the first Lollapalooza tour in 1991] and various shows together. NIN/JA shows have always been 'events' more than anything. Back in the day, JANE'S was winding down as NIN was taking off. Our musical lives crossed each other at a very important time in music. A time where artistry and live performance meant something more. A time when the corporate structures took notice of the value in what was happening, but hadn't yet destroyed it. Touring with NIN is an invitation for us to recapture that spirit that was at a time, inspiring, dangerous and emotionally compelling, as they have always maintained the same integrity that brought me to love music in the first place."

JANE'S ADDICTION will release a boxed set called "A Cabinet Of Curiosities" on April 21, offering fans what a press release described as a collection of never-before-heard demos, live performances and rarities, along with unreleased and hard-to-find videos. The three-CD, one-DVD package will feature a total of 30 previously unreleased tracks and will come in a limited edition box resembling a wooden cabinet. A digital version will also be available. Meanwhile, three days earlier, on April 18, the band's first two major label albums, "Nothing's Shocking" and "Ritual De Lo Habitual", will be reissued on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl.

The boxed set will retail for $74.98 at stores and Rhino.com, while "Nothing's Shocking" and "Ritual De Lo Habitual" will go for $17.98 and $24.98 respectively.

The 43 recordings on "A Cabinet Of Curiosities" are all taken from the first incarnation of the group, spanning from 1986 to 1992.

Disc one will feature five songs from a 1986 recording session in Venice, California, as well as a dozen more 1987 demos of future JANE'S ADDICTION classics like "Three Days", "Ocean Size", "Classic Girl" and "Stop!"

The second disc rounds up more demos, a rehearsal session, a remix of their hit "Been Caught Stealing", various compilation tracks and covers, and some rare live recordings.

Disc three contains a complete live show from December 19, 1990, recorded during the second of a legendary three-night stand at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.

The DVD features rare videos never before available on DVD, home movies of the band, and three unreleased live performances taped in Italy.

JANE'S ADDICTION will play its first major show at the eighth Sasquatch! Music Festival, set to be held May 23-25 at the Gorge in Quincy, Washington.
