DAVE MUSTAINE: MARTY FRIEDMAN Tried To Make MEGADETH An Alternative Band

May 19, 2004

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message on the group's official web site:

"Droogies!

"Interesting day yesterday, yes it was. I got to review all of the interview footage for the DVD or enhanced CD material regarding the remixes. I had just gotten done doing an interview with John Harrell from Burrn! magazine and we talked about certain things that he heard and felt from Marty regarding 'Risk'.

"I went into the next room and the footage was playing, and lo and behold, Marty said he, the management, and the A & R department of Capitol were the ones responsible for trying to make MEGADETH an alternative band. I was blown away that someone stepped up to the plate here.

"This was not news to me, but it sure was nice to have him admit it, and y'all to hear from the horse's mouth what really happened. I wish Marty the best and hope some day to play with him again, but if his heart is not into it 101% then there is no sense in doing it. He does shred though, doesn't he?

"It was great seeing the interview footage and the only one left to film is Junior. I hope that he is as upfront and honest as the others were. It just gives us all so much more credibility.

"Now for the days excitement! I just got back from taking Electra to school and Pam and Justis are on the back porch with a fledgling that had fallen from our roof top. So naturally the mean bastard that I am, I got out a 20 foot ladder and some plastic coverings for my hands and teetered along the edge of my roof to place the baby bird back in its nest.

"Pam was excited the baby got back to its mama, and I was just concerned that I didn't get bubonic plague from touching this flying rat. Although I do have some experience with rats, but that’s more like rubbing elbows.

"Anyway, the last masters came in yesterday and they were great, as well as the first recall this morning of the last four mixes. A 'recall' means that you set up a mix entirely like it was before you put it down on tape, and make another adjustment 'after the fact.' There were four recalls to do — now there are three.

"I wanted to ask all of you Droogs: do you think I should contact Ed Repka and ask him to do one last MEGADETH cover?

"If so, maybe you can make some noise and try to find him for me."

(EDIT: Thank you Droogies, I was able to get in touch with Ed Repka.)

"Have a great day and just know if you fall out of yer nest, Megaman will come to the rescue!

"MSGD!
