DARKANE To Enter Studio In January

December 17, 2007

Guitarist Christofer Malmström of the Swedish thrashers DARKANE has issued the following update:

"How's it going? One week left 'till Christmas. Did you tell Santa about all the DARKANE CDs that you want?

"To me he came pretty early this year. I got myself another Ibanez guitar a few days ago. This is a Prestige RGT220A NTF. It's a really solid piece and the neck is a little wider than I'm used to so I'll have to play it for a while before it'll feel right. I already have two RG 3120 and one RGA 321 which is basically the same but with a fixed bridge. Anyway, the Ibanez Prestige guitars are really good, and suits my style very well!

"We now have 51 minutes of new DARKANE material written. We will start the recording of the next album in late January. Peter [Wildoer, drums] is in the final stage of the live DVD mixing and it's supposed to be done before the year is over. A lot is happening right now so I'm pretty excited. I think that the new album will be very good, and it's really fun to learn the songs.

"A couple of years ago I was at my friend's birthday party. At dinner I sat next to this girl that I didn't know, and she didn't know me either. She was very cool and she told me about her band that she sang in, and I had never heard of them, and she also said that they had sold quite a lot of albums. 'So how many albums did you sell?' I asked. 'We actually sold almost 400 copies,' she replied, and I wasn't that impressed. Now she's the new vocalist in NIGHTWISH, and probably passed the total sales of DARKANE on the first day of her new album release… haha!

"Last but not least! This guy is getting a huge amount of fame on the net right now, and many people have seen his work, but if not: Check out www.youtube.com/stsanders. Me and my friends in DARKANE have laughed a lot at this guy's work. You have to see it a few times and let is sink, but it'll be worth it ones you've 'reached the zone.' I have many favourites, but can recommend METALLICA shreds, Slash shreds, Jake E. Lee shreds, Santana shreds, Steve Vai shreds... hell, all of them!"

DARKANE played its first show with new singer Jens Broman (CONSTRUCDEAD, THE DEFACED) last month at the ProgPower Scandinavia festival in Copenhagen, Denmark. According to Malmström, "Jens enjoyed every second of the show, and so did the rest of us. Our former vocalist Andreas was in the audience to support us, and he was very postive afterwards... along with the rest of the crowd."

DARKANE's upcoming DVD was shot in May 2006 in the band's hometown of Helsingborg, Sweden.

The band last year completed a European tour in support of their fourth album, "Layers of Lies", available now on Nuclear Blast Records. It is the follow-up to the band's third studio CD, "Expanding Senses", which was released in 2002.

DARKANE has been confirmed for Chicago Powerfest 2008. The sixth annual metal festival will take place on Friday/Saturday, May 2-3, at The Pearl Room in Mokena, IL. There will also be an official Powerfest "kick-off" show on May 1, featuring ENSIFERUM, TURISAS, TYR and ELUVEITIE, who will be making a stop along their Paganfest tour.
