CRADLE OF FILTH's DANI: I Can't Handle MARILYN MANSON's Fakeness

CRADLE OF FILTH singer Dani Filth has slammed MARILYN MANSON as "fake" and recounted an incident a couple of years back where the two parties came face-to-face — a meeting that ended with less than spectacular results.

When asked by Britain's Metal Hammer magazine if he is interested in the kind of all-encompassing, multi-faceted career that MARILYN MANSON has, Filth responded, "To me, multi-faceted means multi-faced. And I have only got a couple of masks — both of them crap! No, I haven't really got the time. I've already got what I want, the sports car, the big house, the beautiful girlfriend and beautiful daughter, and I'm happy with that at the moment. If I'm brutally honest, I probably couldn't deal with MARILYN MANSON's fakeness. He made a sarcastic comment about meeting this little guy in a MANSON costume at an awards ceremony — meaning me.

"Ironically, I was at the same awards the year before, but not the one he was talking about. The year before, my girlfriend had run up to him and said something like, 'Oh, I love your music.' But then because she was drunk, she said, 'But god, are you ugly!' I told her not to be so rude. He looked totally shocked and was pulled away by his minder. To me, MARILYN comes across as, 'Hey, I'm Mr. Queen Of Rock!' There's a fakeness that I just can't handle."

In the same interview, Dani is asked to respond to a comment made by SLAYER's Kerry King in which the guitarist quipped that he heard CRADLE OF FILTH doing a chant "that would give them some credibility" backstage during the two bands' tour together.

"Kerry's a strange guy," Filth said. "He's become very vocal and can be a bit pig-headed, but he's harmless enough. I won't both retaliating, if you read what he said about other bands, I'd actually take that as a compliment from the old git."

When asked about Kerry's comment that CRADLE OF FILTH drummer Adrian Erdlandsson "hits everything, but he hits like a fag," Dani said, "Hah! Yeah, that set Adrian fuming. But SLAYER were good to us on what was actually a bloody good tour. Kerry's quite a strange character, because as vocal as he is in the press, he's awfully quiet in private. I was their number one fan when I was growing up, so if I started on them now, I'd only be stabbing myself in the back in some weird time-traveling way."
