COURTNEY LOVE Rethinking Auction Of KURT COBAIN Belongings

May 4, 2007

Launch Radio Networks reports: Courtney Love, widow of NIRVANA frontman Kurt Cobain, is apparently reconsidering her decision to auction off her late husband's belongings. In several long, rambling posts at her web site, MoonwashedRose.com, Love wrote that instead of putting all the items up for sale in a public auction and "scattering all of KC's stuff to the four winds," she may just let a single private collector buy everything. Love added that while she has been approached by several individuals, "there is only ONE person we are seriously discussing this with."

Fan reaction to Love's initial announcement has been mixed. Some expressed their understanding of Love's desire to "move on," while others were more scornful.

Love has been slammed before by fans who have accused her of profiting from Cobain's iconic status. She was criticized for selling a portion of her stake in the NIRVANA song catalog for commercial use, as well as for allowing Cobain's diaries to be published in 2002.

The former HOLE frontperson also said that she gave away six of Cobain's guitars, all of which either "resurfaced at Hard Rock (Cafes) or in the possession of billionaire collectors."

Love also said that she's been approached by producers looking to purchase some of Cobain's amps "to get that authentic NIRVANA sound."

Love told Spinner.com that much of the money from the sale of Cobain's possessions will go to charity or will be invested for their daughter, Frances.
