COREY TAYLOR On Musical Direction Of His Solo Album: 'It'll Have Everything That I'm Known For And More'

Corey Taylor says that his upcoming debut solo album will feature a wide variety of sounds and styles. "I'm gonna dabble in a little bit of everything," the SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR frontman told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation". "It'll have everything that I'm known for and more, let's put it that way.

"The thing that I've always loved is when I go out and do those solo cover shows, basically, is that people are always surprised by the songs that I pull out of my ass to play," he continued. "And that's kind of what this album will be — basically, me writing all of the styles that maybe I haven't gotten to do with SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR and just going for it, just rolling the dice and being, like, 'You know what? I'm gonna put my money where my mouth is and just what fucking happens."

According to Taylor, the LP will feature guest appearances by a number of well-known musicians from other groups. "I'm gonna have a core band that goes in, but I'm definitely gonna have a bunch of my friends come in and do some stuff," he said. "It's gonna be really cool, man. I'm actually really, really looking forward to it."

Corey previously said that his solo LP wouldn't arrive before 2021.

"It's something that I didn't even consider for a long time until people just kept beating me up about it, asking me when I was gonna do it," he said. "And the more they kept asking, the more I just kept thinking about it, the more I was just, like, 'You know what? If I don't do it now, I'm never gonna do it.'"

This is not the first time Taylor has spoken about the possibility of making a solo record. A while back, he said that a solo album from him might sound "like a cross between the [FOO FIGHTERS], SOCIAL [DISTORTION] and THE REPLACEMENTS, you know, I mean, real Midwestern rock," he told The Pulse Of Radio. "Real, just open chords, good time rock, you know. And damn the critics, basically. That's the stuff I write and that's the stuff I've always tried to write."

Taylor said in a 2016 interview that it would be "super greedy" of him to launch a solo career — at least for now. Speaking with RockSverige.se, Taylor explained: "I've been getting questions about solo stuff forever. But it's a good problem to have. But, at the same time, I'm in two fantastic bands. Why would I ever?"

He added: "Unless I wanted to get super greedy, why would I try to split off and do something else. I'm very fulfilled by the music that I get to make with both bands. Is there a solo album in me? Yes. But it's not gonna be for a few more years."

Corey and the rest of SLIPKNOT are continuing to tour in support of their latest album, "We Are Not Your Kind", which came out earlier this month.
