'Classic Rock Presents - Jimi Hendrix: The Guitar Hero' Coming In December

November 17, 2010

Future, the special-interest media group, has revealed the latest release in its premium-collectable "Classic Rock Presents" "fan pack" series. A new partnership with Cardinal Releasing Ltd. in association with Emperor Media Ltd. and the highly acclaimed "Classic Artists" series brings its first DVD special. "Classic Rock Presents - Jimi Hendrix: The Guitar Hero", a documentary narrated by modern-day guitar god Slash.

Hitting newsstands across the U.K. on Wednesday, December 15 with a coverprice of £14.99, "Classic Rock Presents - Jimi Hendrix: The Guitar Hero" is a collectable package, headlined by the unauthorized Hendrix documentary which aired earlier this year on BBC Four. Directed and produced by respected rock filmmaker and lifelong Hendrix fan Jon Brewer, the film was named Critics Choice by Sunday Times Culture magazine.

"Classic Rock Presents- Jimi Hendrix: The Guitar Hero" comes with a special edition of Classic Rock magazine — a 132-page deluxe companion to Jon Brewer's acclaimed documentary film. Edited by legendary rock journalist Mick Wall, the collector's package is completed with an exclusive Jimi Hendrix poster.

"Jimi Hendrix: The Guitar Hero" is the first film which focuses on the music itself and the impetus behind the master who created it. Intended to be the final word on the influential guitar virtuouso, the documentary looks at Hendrix as the master of the electric guitar, as told by a who's who of the world's greatest musicians. In a series of all-new and exclusive interviews, the film includes contributions from Eric Clapton, Lemmy Kilmister, Paul Rodgers, Stephen Stills and many more, as well as Hendrix family members, close friends and contemporaries.

Future will make the Classic Rock special available through its extensive U.K. magazine distribution network, totaling almost 4,000 outlets, including high street, independent, online and supermarket retailers. Fans can pre-order now from this location. The documentary will receive a conventional DVD release on Monday, February 28, joining other films in the "Classic Artists" series.

Jon Brewer, director and producer of "Jimi Hendrix: The Guitar Hero", said: "It took us four years to create this film, ensuring that Hendrix fans across the world finally got to hear the untold story. I believe we have succeeded in our mission, as feedback to date has been 100% positive. We chose to partner with Future and Classic Rock for a release on their new fan pack format, as they understand our chosen artist and have a loyal audience of music lovers that will appreciate the collectability and quality of this lavish offering. Through their relentless passion and creativity, the Classic Rock team has produced an undeniably superb special edition."

Chris Ingham, group publisher of Future's Classic Rock and Metal Hammer, added: "We're delighted to present our first documentary using our popular fan pack model. Jon Brewer's work is internationally renowned amongst the music community and fans, so we're proud to deliver the companion magazine to his excellent film about the greatest rock guitarist ever. We're committed to working with the industry on creating these unmissable collector's packages for leading bands and musicians."

"Classic Rock Presents - Jimi Hendrix: The Guitar Hero" joins Future's stable of "Classic Rock Presents" titles. The company's first fan pack release earlier this year, "Classic Rock Presents: Slash" was devoted to the eponymous guitarist's debut solo album and sold 30,000 copies, a month before the standard album release went top 10 in the U.K. album chart.
