Classic OZZY, AEROSMITH, JIMI HENDRIX Posters To Be Auctioned

July 13, 2005

Backstage Auctions has announced the date for their upcoming Rock Art Poster Auction that will feature over 3,000 original concert posters, which date back from the 1960s through current day. Additionally, the auction will feature complete numbered and first printing series of the "Family Dog" and "Bill Graham" posters, handbills and card series. The auction will begin on Sunday, August 14 and will run for two weeks and end on Sunday, August 28. The full auction catalog will be available online to view beginning Sunday, August 7 at www.backstageauctions.com.

When given the opportunity to review the auction catalog, renowned rock historian Paul Grushkin (author of "The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk", "Art of Modern Rock: The Poster Explosion" (co-author with Dennis King) and "The Treasures of The Hard Rock Café" (co-author with Joel Selvin) commented that "Backstage Auctions has done the next to impossible task of bringing together the most coveted rock poster sets along with many of the holy grails most representative of the psychedelic era." He goes on to remind us that "The great psychedelic posters lit up our homes, our workspaces, and our dorm rooms for decades. Now they’re among the most collectible posters in history." Many of the items being offered are rarely available to collectors or fans. According to Grushkin, "The few times complete Bill Graham and Family Dog poster sets have ever been available, they were on and off the market in a heartbeat."

In addition to the collections being auctioned, there are hundreds of individual poster lots of musical legends like AEROSMITH, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS, BB KING, THE BEACH BOYS, THE BEATLES, EAGLES, ELVIS PRESLEY, GRATEFUL DEAD, JEFF BECK, JIMI HENDRIX, OZZY OSBOURNE, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, RAY CHARLES, PINK FLOYD, STEVIE RAY VAUGHN, THE WHITE STRIPES and THE YARDBIRDS, YES and ZZ TOP — just to name a few. According to Backstage Auctions co-founder Jacques van Gool, "For the first time, this is truly an auction for every fan or collector of classic rock memorabilia. There is literally something for everyone who ever loved rock and roll."
