CHTHONIC Leader Organizes Taiwanese Outdoor Rock And Roll Festival

July 27, 2004

Freddy Lin, the leader of the Taiwanese heavy metal band CHTHONIC, has organized the 10th annual "Formosz" outdoor rock and roll festival, which will take place at Taipei's Children Paradise Park beginning Friday, according to eTaiwanNews.com.

This year's festival will feature over 150 Taiwanese bands, including many well-known indie and hard-rock artists, and 26 groups from the United States, Japan, South Korea, Sweden and Hong Kong.

Lin told The Taiwan News that this year's Formosz features five music stages, named respectively Wind, Forests, Fire, Mountain and Water and a special "Lightning" stage for electronic music art.

Among the leading foreign artists will be Japan's award-winning SEX MACHINEGUNS, X-JAPAN, and the anti-U.S. punk group ENVY, Sweden's CLUB 8 and the U.S.-based AMERICAN ANALOG SET.

Besides CHTHONIC themselves, who will perform Saturday, Taiwanese performers will include CHEN SHENG and TIZZY BAC.

"The artists I'm most interesting in seeing include MICHELLE SHOCKED from the United States and Japan's ENVY and SEX MACHINE GUNS," Lin said.

Lin said that MICHELLE SHOCKED "is admirable not only for her creativity in music but also for her role in promoting feminism and opposition to war."

Lin added that this year's Formosz will also feature special catering for Japanese, Western and Taiwanese food from prominent Taipei restaurants and cafes.
