CHILDREN OF BODOM Announces Departure Of Drummer, Bassist And Keyboardist

November 1, 2019

Finnish metallers CHILDREN OF BODOM will play the final show with drummer Jaska Raatikainen, bassist Henri "Henkka T. Blacksmith" Seppälä and keyboardist Janne Wirman this coming December. "A Chapter Called Children Of Bodom" will take place at the Black Box in Helsinki Ice Hall on December 15.

The band said in a statement: "It is with heavy hearts that we announce that 2019 will be the last for CHILDREN OF BODOM with this lineup.

"After almost 25 years with BODOM, thousands of shows and 10 albums, it is time for Henkka, Janne and Jaska to step back and change direction within their lives. All three will miss the fans and supporters in every city in every country the band ever played.

"The last show of this lineup will be on the 15th of December at Helsinki Ice Hall. Tickets still remain for some of the Finnish shows in December.

"Alexi [Laiho, guitar/vocals] and Daniel [Freyberg, guitar] will have further announcements about their plans to keep creating new music in the future.

"Thanks again for everything."

Wirman, who is also the leader of his band WARMEN, said in a statement: "Dear all. It is time for me to end my career in COB. I want to thank all WARMEN fans for their support through the years. More news about new music coming soon!"

Upcoming CHILDREN OF BODOM shows in Finland:

Dec. 05 - Seinäjoki, Rytmikorjaamo
Dec. 06 - Oulu, Teatria
Dec. 07 - Tornio, Teatria
Dec. 10 - Helsinki, Tavastia (sold out)
Dec. 11 - Tampere, Pakkahuone
Dec. 12 - Turku, Logomo
Dec. 13 - Jyväskylä, Lutakko (sold out)
Dec. 14 - Jyväskylä, Lutakko (sold out)
Dec. 15 - Helsinki, Black Box

Unfortunately, this also means that CHILDREN OF BODOM's "Hate Crew Deathroll" special show at next year's Tuska festival will be canceled.

CHILDREN OF BODOM's latest album, "Hexed", came out in March via Nuclear Blast Records.

Earlier this year, Laiho told Premier Guitar that he still enjoyed the touring lifestyle. "I definitely do," he said. "I sometimes feel like it's killing me, but it's like an addiction, you know. Like when they're talking about drugs or alcohol. You just love something so much but you also know that sometimes it's killing you. But you're always going to get back to it.

"You know, I've been doing this for over 20 years. When things start looping over and over again, everything starts to become a blur. That's what it's pretty much about."
