CATARACT Announces New Bassist

January 21, 2008

Swiss metalcore act CATARACT has announced the addition of bassist Nico Schläpfer (END OF SUFFERING, TIMOR) to the group's ranks. "We are confident that he will add a lot of new spirit and blood to the band," the group writes in a statement.

CATARACT has a scheduled a CD-release and 10th-anniversary concert on March 20 at Rohstofflager in Zürich, Switzerland. The band will also perform one cover song on January 29 at Karaoke From Hell (hosted by Martin Ain from CELTIC FROST) at the Mascotte club in Zürich. "It's not really a show since we're only allowed to play one cover song and that's it, but it sure as hell will be a lot of fun!" the group says. "About seven other bands will also appear making complete twats out of themselves to win a trophy!"

CATARACT's self-titled fifth full-length album will be released in Europe on March 25 via Metal Blade Records. According to a press release, this CD is by far the band's most progressive to date, showing a lot more variety by adding a lot of brutality and speed but also more melody and heaviness. The massive production of Tue Madsen rounds off the package, which will be available in three editions: as a regular CD, as a limited-edition CD with a bonus disc (for which the band recorded a whole bunch of cover songs) and as a picture disc on vinyl (limited to 500 copies).
