BYZANTINE Completes First-Ever DVD, Prepares To Record New Album

September 6, 2006

Vocalist/rhythm guitarist Chris Ojeda of West Virginia's forward-thinking thrashers BYZANTINE has issued the following update:

"I know it seems like we have fell of the face of the planet but things have been really busy in the BYZANTINE camp both personal and professional. My fiancée and I have bought a home this summer and are also getting prepared for our wedding this October which have sidetracked the bands' summer touring plans but we have been working at home on other things for you guys.

"First off, we have been busy keeping our chops up by recording some cover tunes. We recorded a version of 'Shop Lift' from EYEHATEGOD and also recorded 'The Hellion/Electric Eye' from JUDAS PRIEST. Both will be on tribute albums coming out this fall.

"Secondly, we officially have shot and compiled all the footage for our first-ever DVD, entitled 'Salvation: Taking Up Serpents', which will be out around Christmas time. This DVD will include our video for 'Jeremiad', bootlegs from around the country, a live long-form video consisting of a six-song set list, interviews, guitar tutorials, studio footage and other cool shit for you guys to enjoy. Make sure you pick up your copy when it hits stores. Also, we have been slaving away writing our third and upcoming album. We have so far 11 songs in the bag and most likely will have 15 penned by the time pre-production starts. Normally we write 10 and use 10, but riffs are flowing like mad and all four of us are writing material this time, which has been very interesting. All I can say is if this album doesn't kick our first two albums' asses, something is wrong! Some songs are pure thrash, some songs are off time as hell and some songs are depressing and dark. This album WILL be our finest effort.

"Look for us at the end of September when we hit the road for some dates with Metal Blade recording artist DEMIRICOUS. Then it is off to figure out how to play this new shit!"

BYZANTINE's sophomore album, "...And They Shall Take Up Serpents", was released in July 2005 via Prosthetic Records. The follow-up to "The Fundamental Component" was produced by the band and Aaron Fisher and was mixed by Brad Divens (FU MANCHU, WRATHCHILD AMERICA) and Drew Mazurek.
