BUTCHER BABIES: Why Nipple Tape Is 'Such A Dead Issue'

November 12, 2015

On November 10, PittsburghMusicMagazine.com conducted an interview with BUTCHER BABIES frontwomen Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey. You can now watch the chat below. A couple of excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the biggest mistakes they've made in their careers and personal lives so far:

Carla: "I don't think that we've necessarily made a mistake. I think that everything that you do becomes part of who you are."

Heidi: "I don't regret anything; I really don't. Even in my personal life, I don't regret anything, because every single thing that we've done as a band, and in our personal lives, created who we are today and made us the people that we are today. I can't look at anything that we've done as a band as a mistake; I really can't."

On whether they have any pet peeves on the road having to do with bandmates or journalists:

Carla: "The pet peeve I have with journalists is bringing up the nipple tape from years ago. We literally wore that for, like, six months, and that was for shows on the Sunset Strip — not even a tour. It's such a dead issue, and we've done so many amazing things beyond that and really built a name for ourselves. And I wish people would concentrate on what's going on right now rather than what was going on back then. And pet peeves as far as bandmembers… Everybody has a day where they're annoyed by somebody, but part of being in a band and surviving in a band is learning how to deal with people around you and accepting them for who they are. And knowing that that person's gonna act like that on this day, or this person is gonna do this, and walking away from a situation that annoys you, or understanding, that's you friend; that's how they are."

Heidi: "I think, more so than anything, after all these years of touring together, I think that the things that initially bothered me about different people, I see it now as endearing. It's, like if people make these little sounds, like chewing with their mouths open or something like that, it's just like, 'Oh, I know who that is.' It's endearing now more so than annoying. Whereas back in the day, if I heard that, [I'd be like], 'What the hell?' We've really learned how to take each other's good and bad qualities and live with them."

BUTCHER BABIES' second album, "Take It Like A Man", was released on August 21 via Century Media. The CD was produced by Logan Mader, who has previously worked with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, DEVILDRIVER, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and GOJIRA.
