BAD BRAINS Comment On Loss Of CBGB's HILLY KRISTAL

August 31, 2007

D.C. hardcore legends BAD BRAINS have issued a statement extending their "sincere condolences to the family" of Hilly Kristal, the founder of legendary New York punk rock venue CBGB who died on Tuesday from complications from lung cancer at the age of 75.

Commented BAD BRAINS' Darryl Jenifer: "The BRAINS didn't go to college... CBGB was our university. Hilly was our headmaster. And although the music died back in the '50s with Holly and Richie...the punk lives with Hilly, Joey, Stiv and 'CBs.' Forever is the spirit of Hilly and his punk rock. Thanks, Hilly. We will all ways remember you as the don of punk and the king of the Bowery... that serious-looking nice guy."
