AS I LAY DYING Members Discuss 'Shaped By Fire' Title Track In First Album Trailer

The first trailer for "Shaped By Fire", the seventh album from California metallers AS I LAY DYING, can be seen below. Due on September 20 via Nuclear Blast Records, the disc was produced by the band and was mixed by Joseph McQueen at Sparrow Sound in Los Angeles, California, while mastering was completed by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in Nashville, Tennessee. The only exception was for the track "My Own Grave", which was produced by AS I LAY DYING, co-produced by Drew Fulk and mixed by Adam "Nolly" Getgood. The artwork was created by Corey Meyers.

Guitarist Nick Hipa comments, "The song is a really good balance between the old elements of AS I LAY DYING that people know which is melodic riffing and energetic intensity combined with a little bit more groove, lower tuning, a little heavier and that's all tied together with a strong chorus and message."

The track listing for the effort is as follows:

01. Burn To Emerge
02. Blinded
03. Shaped By Fire
04. Undertow
05. Torn Between
06. Gatekeeper
07. The Wreckage
08. My Own Grave
09. Take What's Left
10. Redefined
11. Only After We've Fallen
12. The Toll It Takes

AS I LAY DYING comments, "We are tremendously grateful to have found positive resolve from the worst moments of our history. The previous chapter of our journey was one of pervasive hurt and pain. Subsequent years found us on varied paths — all of which slowly led towards resolutions of growth, healing, and reconciliation.

"AS I LAY DYING's collective purpose is to share a message of hope for everyone through the empowering outlet of music, and we are humbled by the overwhelming support we have received from family, friends, and fans so far.

"We are honored to join forces with Nuclear Blast worldwide in releasing our new album, 'Shaped By Fire'. Their legacy and contribution to the heavy music scene is undeniably incredible and we are proud to call their label home. We are thankful for their support and enthusiasm and together we look forward to sharing the best AILD record yet!

"In conjunction with our new album announcement, we are excited to share a music video for the title track 'Shaped By Fire'. While lyrically akin to the other 'Shaped By Fire' single releases 'My Own Grave' and 'Redefined', we explored some different musical territory to incorporate within our established sound. We’d like to thank our director Mathis Arnell, all of the crew, and actors that contributed to making this video with us under the very hot conditions!

"We look forward to seeing our fans out on the road as we embark on the Latin American, European, and U.S. tours before closing the book on 2019."

AS I LAY DYING's upcoming disc will be the band's first since singer Tim Lambesis was sentenced to six years in jail after pleading guilty to paying a San Diego police officer posing as a hitman $1,000 to kill his wife. Approximately two and a half years later — in December 2016 — he was discharged from a California detention facility and was transferred to the Division of Adult Parole Operations.

In June 2018, AS I LAY DYING played its first show with Lambesis in five years and released a new single, "My Own Grave". Lambesis also owned up to his crimes in a long apology on the band's Facebook page after his release.

November saw AS I LAY DYING complete its first U.S. tour in five years and the band followed it up with a European run of shows. Another single, "Redefined", arrived in April.

The return of AS I LAY DYING raised some questions, particularly since Hipa categorically denounced the band's disgraced frontman as a "sociopathic narcissist in definite need of rehabilitation" in a social-media post back in 2014.

AS I LAY DYING will embark on the "Shaped By Fire" U.S. headlining tour in the fall. Support on the trek will come from AFTER THE BURIAL and EMMURE.
