Sweden's CENTINEX have parted ways with guitarist Kenneth Wiklund, who reportedly quit the band in a move that was a long time coming, according to bassist Martin Schulmam. Although CENTINEX's official lineup will remain a four-piece for the time being, Wiklund's departure “won't affect the new album and the future plans of the band”, stated Schulmam, adding that CENTINEX have already found a 'session' guitarist to fill in for upcoming tours and shows. CENTINEX's upcoming studio album will be released in 2002 via Candlelight Records.

Vocalist Jack Russell has officially left GREAT WHITE, the group that he has fronted for the last 23 years. Here is Russell's statement on the matter:

...

“As of Monday, November 05, 2001, I have chosen to leave GREAT WHITE, the band I started back in 1978.

...

“I am proud and thankful of my achievements with GREAT WHITE and hold such fond memories of the past. We will play one show on New Years Eve in Anaheim as a final farewell.

...

“My thanks go out to my band mates, past and present and I wish them all the best in their future endeavors. Also thank you to the managers, agents, radio presenters, record labels and all the people that have helped me achieve my dreams. I especially want to thank John Kalodner for his understanding and support in my decision.

“As I have said many times before, when it stopped being fun, that was the time to do something else. After much deliberation, I decided that the time had arrived.

...

“I wasn't sure how or when to make this decision public, but this morning, my father John Russell passed peacefully away. He had always been GREAT WHITE's biggest supporter and was so excited about my future solo career. His passing made me realize that it was time to lay to rest the two things I loved most in life.

...

“I am in the process of recording a new album under the name of Jack Russell, which I am dedicating to my father's memory. It is in a totally different vein and we are planning to release it in the first half of next year.

...

“The musicians in my new band are undoubtedly some of the best in the world and it is with them that I'm moving forward to fulfill my desires - musically, creatively and spiritually.

...

“We will be touring the world next year and I hope that the fans who have supported me over the years, will be there in the future. Without the fans there never would have been a GREAT WHITE and for that I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. My prayers and blessings are with you.

...

“As an old book closes, a new one opens and I hope that everybody can understand and respect my reasons and listen with enjoyment to the music that I make in the future.

...

“Peace and Love — Jack Russell'

According to current RATT vocalist Jizzy Pearl (ex-LOVE/HATE),“writing songs is, contrary to popular belief, not very glamorous. It's a lot of guitar playing and a lot of dead ends and every now and then you get a really good song from it. The end result is always gratifying but the work f.cks with you. It's a lot easier to talk about songs that 'blow your mind' than to come up with a few. When I read stuff like that on other people's web sites it makes me wonder who they're writing it for, the fans or for their own insecure egos. Probably both.'

SLAVE TO THE SYSTEM, a project featuring QUEENSRYCHE guitarist Kelly Gray, QUEENSRYCHE drummer Scott Rockenfield, vocalist/guitarist Damon Johnson, vocalist/guitarist Scott Heard, and bassist Roman Glick are due to soon issue an EP through an as-yet-unspecified label. SHELTER frontman Ray Cappo has posted the following message on the group's official web site: “I want to thank all those who have inquired about my family after the horrific WTC nightmare. My sister Rita was 4 blocks away just dropping her children off at school when she witnessed the first plane explode. After grabbing her kids and running uptown with the masses of screaming people, she watched the second plane hit. My mom (age 75) watched it all from her window 3 blocks away and spent the day in her basement fearing the choking dust. People were banging on the door to get into her building for shelter from the debris, soot, and asbestos in the air. She's not allowed to go home yet and is staying with my brother. Both Mom and Rita (and her kids) are physically ok but emotionally shook up like anything. Anyway, thanks for caring, and let's say a little prayer for those lost as well as their families. Let's also use it as a catalyst to live our life to the fullest and be the best we can be. Death can happen at any moment so lets live today. Sincerely, Ray

Sweden's THYRFING are not planning on doing any touring “for awhile”, according to a statement on the band's official web site. “Not that we've been [so] often on stage lately, but this is just a statement to let you know, all of those mailing and asking, but also for agencies and booking companies. You never know what happens in the future, and we do not want to burn any bridges. However, nothing will happen 'til the release of our new album.” THYRFING's follow-up to last year's Urkraft CD, tentatively entitled The Fourth Outrage, is due out shortly.
