ANTHRAX have announced plans to record a live album at the October 3rd Chicago stop on their upcoming US tour as the support act for JUDAS PRIEST for a late November release through Beyond/BMG Records. According to guitarist Scott Ian, “We've heard your prayers and are answering them. So many of you have written in about us doing a live record with John [Bush vocals] that we couldn't ignore them anymore. We are going to have songs on it from our whole career. This will be the only 'official' place to hear John singing the older material.” In addition to the forthcoming live album, ANTHRAX will be reissuing the Sound Of White Noise and Stomp 442 CDs, complete with four bonus cuts apiece, on August 28th through the same label. In other ANTHRAX news, the band have reportedly begun recording the material for their upcoming studio album, which is tentatively due to be released through Beyond/BMG Records in March 2002. As-yet-untitled, the album will contain the following song titles, among others:

Prior to the start of the group's jaunt with JUDAS PRIEST in September, ANTHRAX will be embarking on a week-long headlining tour, the dates for which have yet to be announced. More information on this as it becomes available.


SKINLAB will be issuing their much-anticipated third full-length effort, tHEreVOLTINGROOM>>dISTURBING tHE aRT oF eXPRESSION, on October 16th through Century Media Records. The first single from the album is expected to be the track "Anthem For A Fallen Star" (formerly known as “Spit The Venom”),which features a guest appearance by UNJUST singer Paul Mendoza. A video for the track is currently in the works. As previously reported, tHEreVOLTINGROOM… was produced by Steve Evetts (i.e. SEPULTURA, EARTH CRISIS) and Juan Urteaga (i.e. 40 GRIT) at Hyde Street and Trident Studios in San Francisco, and it includes appearances by GLASSJAW frontman Daryl Palumbo("Now That You're One Of Us"),36 CRAZYFISTS singer Brock Lindow("Take As Needed"),Juan Urteaga of VILE("Slave The Way"), Chris Agguaire of (209) ("Isolation") and Paul Mendoza of UNJUST ("Anthem For A Fallen Star").Along with 10 original songs, SKINLAB also recorded a cover of the SMASHING PUMPKINS' "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" during the album sessions for possible inclusion on an upcoming, as-yet-undisclosed soundtrack. It is presently unclear if this cut will also appear on tHEreVOLTINGROOM… or if its inclusion on the aforementioned soundtrack album will be an exclusive affair. In other SKINLAB news, the band are planning to tour Australia and Japan in October and are currently hoping to embark on a full US jaunt in January.


According to FOO FIGHTERS mainman Dave Grohl, the mixing for his PROBOT metal side project has started in California, with the drummer-turned-frontman having just completed work on the track “Centuries Of Sin”, featuring VENOM singer Cronos on lead vocals. Described by Grohl as “seriously evil sh.t”, the as-yet-untitled PROBOT CD has no release date at the moment, but it is currently “a constant source of joy” in the ex-NIRVANA man's life. A quote from Dave: “Aint no 'Learn to Fly' happening on this album, I'm afraid.” As previously reported, PROBOT's debut album will include appearances from a host of metal's most revered frontmen, including Cronos, Max Cavalera (SOULFLY/ex-SEPULTURA), Lemmy (MOTORHEAD),Tom Araya (SLAYER),Phil Anselmo (PANTERA),King Diamond (MERCYFUL FATE),Wino (SPIRIT CARAVAN/ex-THE OBSESSED),Snake (VOIVOD),Lee Dorrian (CATHEDRAL),Eric Wagner (TROUBLE),and Mike Dean (C.O.C.).

In related news, FOO FIGHTERS have chosen to work with an as-yet-undisclosed producer for their upcoming studio album, which is tentatively scheduled to be tracked at the end of the summer for an early 2002 release. According to Grohl,  “the last two years of touring has made a great difference in this band, and we're kind of writing from a live perspective. Never done that before.”


Here is SLAYER guitarist Kerry King's comment on SLIPKNOT, as taken from the current issue of the UK magazine Metal Hammer: “SLIPKNOT f.ckin' destroy me. I listen to them and even I feel intimidated. I feel like, 'F.ck, these guys are really pulling something out of the hat here.' They just came out of nowhere and the album is so f.ckin' powerful. Every time I see them live it's incredible. They're a band I'm as obsessed with as the bands when I was growing up. And, like us, they got heard with no help from anyone.”


As previously reported, Century Media Records will be releasing a brand new “rarities” release from STUCK MOJO entitled Violate This, containing two brand new STUCK MOJO songs (recorded as a three-piece, without contributions from frontman Bonz),plus numerous B-sides, as well as previously unreleased and other rare tracks. Among these will be STUCK MOJO's cover versions of MOTLEY CRUE's "Shout At The Devil" and IRON MAIDEN's "Wrathchild" (recorded during the Pigwalk sessions in 1996 and featuring lead vocals from STRAPPING YOUNG LAD's Devin Tonwsend, who co-produced the Pigwalk album),and early versions of the tracks “Pigwalk” and “No Regrets” (better known as “Back In The Saddle”) from guitarist Rich Ward's mid-'90s side project MOJO 427, which released a couple of rare demos but never went further. At the moment, Violate This is scheduled for an August 21st release in the US and September 3rd release in Europe, and the tentative track listing for the effort is as follows:

“Pretending”, the first single from H.I.M.'s forthcoming Deep Shadows And Brilliant Highlights CD has entered the Finnish Radio Mafia single charts at #1. Check out the Radio Mafia charts here. “Pretending” has also entered the German single charts at #10.


Sweden's THE CROWN, featuring ex-AT THE GATES vocalist Tomas Lindberg, will be entering Studio Mega on October 5th to begin work on their upcoming album, which is tentatively scheduled for an early 2002 release. The recording sessions will take about three weeks and will be followed by the mixing of the album, which will take place with an as-yet-undetermined producer/engineer during November. In other THE CROWN news, the band have been confirmed as the new headliners for the Saturday, July 14th portion of the Austrian Hell On Earth Festival after previous headliners KREATOR pulled out of the festival for undisclosed reasons. THE CROWN's performance at the festival will mark the groups' live debut with Lindberg, after Sweden's Dist 2001 Festival—where the new band were previously due to make their first live appearance—was unexpectedly cancelled due to poor ticket sales.


Norway's AETERNUS will be releasing their fourth album, Ascension Of Terror, in October. At the moment, the band are still composing the material for the CD, and they're preparing to enter the studio shortly to begin recording the album, the group's first since departure of bassist Morrigan (a session bassist by the name of V'gandr has been enlisted in her place).


CLAWFINGER's “Out To Get Me” single (which comes off the group's forthcoming A Whole Lot Of Nothing CD) has dropped down to position #80 on the German single charts this week.


The reunited hardcore heroes STRIFE are entering the studio on July 15th to record a new album that will be released through Victory Records before the end of the year.


ANATHEMA bassist Dave Pybus has left the band on the eve of the release of the group's much-anticipated new studio album, A Fine Day to Exit, and is currently traveling with CRADLE OF FILTH as a session musician for the duration of their North American dates with NILE and GOD FORBID. A Fine Day to Exit is scheduled for a September 11 release through Music For Nations in Europe and Koch Records in North America.

DC4, which features in its ranks ARMORED SAINT guitarist Jeff Duncan, is preparing to enter the studio on July 25th with producer Joey Vera (bassist for ARMORED SAINT, FATES WARNING) to begin work on a new CD that will be released through Rising Sun/Zomba Records in Europe. The band will shop the finished CD to interested labels in the US and hope to have the album issued worldwide before the end of the year.


Former MSG/RAINBOW vocalist Graham Bonnet (currently in IMPELLITERRI) will be doing a show with his “old friend” Don Airey (ex-RAINBOW/OZZY keyboardist) on Friday, July 27th at 7:30 PM at Portsmouth Guildhall, Guildhall Square, Portsmouth, England. For the tickets and direction, go here.


SLAVES ON DOPE have completed seven new songs during the pre-production sessions for the upcoming sophomore album in Montreal and will be previewing the new material at the three Canadian shows they have scheduled for the coming weeks.


THERAPY?'s Michael McKeegan on the band's musical legacy (as quoted by Metal Hammer): “"We've doing eight very different sounding records over the last ten years and that's should really count for something. That said, Steve Souza from EXODUS came up to me at a gig in San Francisco and told me that he was a big fan of THERAPY? Which floored me because two of my fave albums from that era were Bonded By Blood and Pleasures of the Flesh by EXODUS!" As previously reported, THERAPY? will release their eighth studio album, entitled Shameless, via the Ark 21 label in late September.


PENANCE, REBREATHER and CIRCLE OF DEAD CHILDREN will be playing on August 15th at the Millvale Industrial Theater in Pittsburgh.


Australia's PSYCHRIST are putting the finishing touches to their second full-length album, tentatively titled Debauched Minions, at a Sydney studio with NAZXUL's Lachlan Mitchell in the producer seat. Provisionally due for release during October, the album is set to include the following tracks:
