ROB ZOMBIE is scheduled to enter the Jim Henson Studios on Saturday, August 4th to record with a 30-piece orchestra for an as-yet-unspecified track on the singer's forthcoming follow-up to 1998's Hellbilly Deluxe CD, which is due to be released on October 30th through Geffen Records. As previously reported, a host of guests are expected to appear on the upcoming effort, including SLAYER guitarist Kerry King, METHODS OF MAYHEM mainman Tommy Lee, LIMP BIZKIT's DJ Lethal, and the BEASTIE BOYS' Mix Master Mike.

CANNIBAL CORPSE have confirmed via their official web site that they're currently working with producer Neil Kernon (i.e. NEVERMORE, QUEENSRYCHE, JUDAS PRIEST, MACABRE) at El Paso's Sonic Ranch Studios (formerly Village Recorders) on their forthcoming, as-yet-untitled effort (as reported here a couple of days ago),which is due through Metal Blade Records in January 2002. According to the band, “after the grueling trek from Tampa to El Paso ([guitarists] Pat [O'Brien] and Jack [Owen] drove the gear, everyone else flew) we set up the gear and started getting sounds. We tweaked the drums for a couple of days and started tracking late last week. The drum sounds are brutal to say the least. Paul [Mazurkiewicz] is finished with his drum tracks and we're messing with EQ's and sh.t to make them sound perfect. Guitar sounds will soon be blasting out of studio A as Pat and Jack prepare the twin guitar assault.” CANNIBAL CORPSE are due to complete work on the upcoming album on August 28th, after which they will have a couple of months off before they're due to head over to Europe for a tour with KREATOR, KRISIUN and DISBELIEF, to be followed by the Xmas Fest 2001 trek, which is also set to include VOMITORY, KREATOR, MARDUK, NILE, DARK FUNERAL and KRISIUN.

No official announcement has yet been made, but sources indicate that either Phillips or fellow London, Ontario resident, 30-ish Boris Novosel will be incorporated into the group's line-up when they make an appearance at the Beast Feast Festival in Japan on August 26th and at the Highbury Garage in London, UK on September 10th. KITTIE have been recording their sophomore album, entitled Oracle, with producer Garth (GGGarth) Richardson for the past two weeks in their hometown of London, Ontario and will move to Vancouver later in the month, where Randy Staub will reportedly be handling the LP's mixing duties.

In a fresh statement posted on the group's official web site, MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has addressed the recent criticism of the band's “decision” to play smaller venues during their upcoming American tour, many of which are the smallest the band has played in over a decade. Here is Mustaine's posting in its entirety:

...

“I have noticed a lot of excitement [on the band's official message board] regarding the upcoming shows, and as usual some grumbling, too. Let me start with the fact that we are very happy to see how many people are responding to our new approach to our set-lists. I need to clear up something right now before we go on. After listening to the first four records, MEGADETH has been blessed with many unbelievably talented musicians.

...

“From the sometimes imitated but never emulated dynamic duo of drum god Gar Samuelson (RIP) and guitar genius Chris Poland, through the ranks of sledge hammer drummer Chuck Behler and GIT technician Jeff Young, and most remarkably the technical precision of Nick Menza and the wizardry of Marty Friedman, we are now at what we feel is our most happiest of times with my favorite drummer of all Jimmy DeGrasso and our new wunderkind Al Pitrelli.

...

“So, having said that, please in no way interprets our enthusiasm as being a negative reflection on any of our previous honorable members.

...

“We have decided, as I previously posted, to play in smaller venues so that we can not only rebuild our loyal fan base with intimate shows, but also to rebuild our standings with our promoters in the USA after last summers Maximum Rock disappointment.

...

“There are going to sadly be a few places that are not 'all-ages' shows, but we have tried our very best in every market to find venues that are. The criteria that our manager has set for the concerts is as follows:

...

1. All Ages (where possible)

2. 1,500 capacity approximately (excluding radio shows and festivals)

3. No seating (excluding radio shows and festivals)

4. Alcohol served with ID

...

“We have been able to meet three to four of these stipulations in almost every market the only one not being met is the all-ages condition.

...

“And while you may have heard that we have specified on-sale dates for tickets to shows you may be interested in, please be advised that tickets can sometimes be reserved in advance over the internet. So check in your area for changes in on-sale dates or early releases of tickets for sale. There have already been many incidents where either hard tickets, or reserved tickets have been released. And once they are gone, they are gone.

...

“***This would mean that you would not be able to get a ticket if you wait. ***

...

“We will not be upgrading venues on this first leg because we want to stay in small places like we did in Europe during our headlining tour.

...

“We are also excited to tell you about the interactivity and your involvement with our shows. That will be coming up soon so stay tuned.

...

“Lastly, the opening band ENDO is our choice for this leg and even though we have not heard them, we have heard that they are a good young band and should be able to entertain you.

...

“I will get back to you after getting the last few days exhaustion and plane food out of my system. I am tired and there is a really big bed right next to me sneaking up to swallow me.

...

“AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

...

Mustaine sez, GOODBYE DROOGIES!”

Metal Masters, 'Florida's Premier Rock'n'Roll Video/Interview Show', has posted the following item on its web site regarding the status of the funds from the deceased ex-SLAUGHTER guitarist Tim Kelly's Memorial Tribute Trust, which has now apparently gone missing: “I hate to start out with on a sad note, but I think this should be known. I sincerely think some people are trying to hide the facts. Immediately after the death of SLAUGHTER guitarist Tim Kelly [who was killed in a car accident], a memorial trust fund was established to purchase a lasting memorial tribute to Tim to be placed somewhere in Las Vegas, the city Tim called 'home'. Tim's brother has informed me that, several months ago, someone went to the Bank Of America in Las Vegas, emptied and closed the account these funds (approximately $5,000-$6,000) were being held in. It took two signatures to withdraw the money. As far as I know, it seems that no one within the SLAUGHTER camp has spoken out and informed Tim's fans on this tragic matter nor have they tried to replaced the money. Things that make you go...hmmmmm. In the meantime, Tim's fans are wondering what happened to the money they donated and where this memorial tribute is so that they can go see it. I'm sure they've been getting hit with e-mails from his fans regarding the fund because I know I have been getting them also. If someone who could do something as disheartening, mean and cruel as stealing money from a memorial tribute trust funds bothers you as much as it does me, please contact any member of SLAUGHTER when you see them on the road this summer and ask them what the status of the Tim Kelly Memorial Fund is.”

During his appearance on the The Late Late Show this past Monday, former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash told host Craig Kilborn that a reunion of the original GUNS N' ROSES line-up was unlikely to take place, especially in light of the continuing internal and management problems that have plagued the band for much of the group's existence.
