ABSCESS To Team Up With POPULATION REDUCTION For Split CD/LP

March 18, 2009

Tankcrimes will release a ABSCESS / POPULATION REDUCTION split LP/CD in the spring 2009. The split, brought on by a fan-based cover song years ago, features cover art by Chris Reifert.

In 2005, POPULATION REDUCTION contacted Chris Reifert of ABSCESS with a demo tape including a cover of ABSCESS' "I Don't Give a Fuck". POPULATION REDUCTION had just made plans to release their first EP on Tankcrimes ("At the Throats of Man Forever", 2005) and wanted permission to include their version of the ABSCESS song on the record. To their surprise, Chris replied that he loved their version of the song and gave them the go-ahead. A friendship was born and now, four years later, the split album will emerge out that fan-based cover song.

Reifert had this to say about the new ABSCESS songs: "The recordings went quick, sleazy and dirty like they often do. We put some adrenaline and ugliness in there that will curl your toes and kill your neighbors' lawn. Nothing fancy this time, just raw, sick and brutal noize!"

Peter Svoboda, POPULATION REDUCTION guitarist, said of their recording: "We did our damndest to bring the A-game on this one. We needed to sound like we belong in the same record bin as ABSCESS, much less on the flip side of the vinyl," and added, "Doing a split with ABSCESS is like losing your virginity. At least if you're in POPULATION REDUCTION...which is to say, you know that by comparison you really didn't do a great job, but you are nevertheless really fucking proud of yourself."

POPULATION REDUCTION are not alone in being stoked for the record — it has truly come full circle for them. Reifert states: "It's killer doing a split with the masters of the unclean and demented, POPULATION REDUCTION! They are twisted mutants who will crawl up your leg and munch on your spleen. Their tracks should make your head explode 'Scanners' style! We are pleased to join the ranks of the crazy Tankcrimes universe — there's a lot to be heard and crushed by there."

The recordings have been mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound (GHOUL, IMPALED, MAGRUDERGRIND, VOETSEK).
