VEIL OF MAYA Parts Ways With Bassist, Announces Replacement

January 23, 2009

Bassist Kris "The Higler" Hilger has left VEIL OF MAYA "to pursue other things going on in his life." The group says, "There are no hard feelings between them whatsoever as the band wishes him all the best to whatever he pursues next."

Hilger's permanent replacement in VEIL OF MAYA is ex-BORN OF OSIRIS guitarist Matthew Pantelis.

Commented Matthew: "As far as any of you are concerned, I used to be in a band with (current VEIL OF MAYA vocalist) Brandon for some time that used to jam along side with VEIL around Chicago. So when I found out that Kris split, I was enthralled to help out my buddies! Bass is sick and being with good friends of mine all the time is even more amazing. But the best part is making the change up permanent. Upon all that being said, the next album released by us will mask you."

VEIL OF MAYA is gearing up for its co-headlining trek, dubbed The Crush Em' All Tour, with AFTER THE BURIAL, ABACABB and FELL SILENT.

Capital Chaos has posted video footage (see below) of VEIL OF MAYA's November 21, 2008 performance at The Boardwalk in Orangevale, California. Also on the bill were THE FACELESS, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS, DECREPIT BIRTH and NEURAXIS.

VEIL OF MAYA released its latest full-length album, "The Common Man's Collapse", on April 1, 2008 via Sumerian Records. According to a press release, the CD is "replete with swift and fluid guitar flourishes, spitting forth notes like lava, lock step drumming that is swifter than a hummingbird's wings and vocals that range from Cro-Magnon throat tones to bestial rage while retaining enunciation."

The band went to North Hollywood to record the album with Mike Keene (THE FACELESS) producing. New vocalist Brandon joined the group after leaving the band ISCARIOT and has exceeded VEIL OF MAYA's expectations in delivery and lyrical content. Brandon says, "I like to keep my lyrics to interpretation and it's a real mix of where I get influence from. There are songs on the album that deal with water as an element, how it can be calm or really brutal. There's a song about a dream I had, there's a song influenced by the world of warcraft, I wrote about twenty songs when I joined the band so there was no shortage of things to talk about."
