TWISTED SISTER Slams Australian Politician CLIVE PALMER For Using Re-Written Version Of 'We're Not Gonna Take It'

January 1, 2019

TWISTED SISTER has slammed Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer for using a re-written version of the band's classic song "We're Not Gonna Take It" in connection with his political party.

The former federal MP for Fairfax from 2013 to 2016, Palmer said his now-defunct Palmer United party has become the United Australia party, and will contest the next federal election. His early election advertising signaled his desire to "Make Australia Great," presumably in a bid to hitch himself to Donald Trump-style populism in the United States.

Earlier today, TWISTED SISTER guitarist Jay Jay French tweeted: "TWISTED SISTER does not endorse Australian politician Clive Palmer, never heard of him and was never informed of Clive Palmer's use of a re-written version of our song Were Not Gonna Take It. We receive no money from its use and we are investigating how we can stop it."

Singer Dee Snider concurred, tweeting: "No we do not endorse @PalmerUtdParty! We are contacting our legal team to address this and if that doesn't work...I'LL BE DOWN UNDER IN THREE WEEKS TO DEAL WITH IT MYSELF!"

Last month, Snider implied that he would approve Palmer's use of "We're Not Gonna Take It" if the politician advocated legalized abortion.

"Here's the bottom line...is he pro-choice?" Dee wrote when asked if TWISTED SISTED gave Palmer permission to use "We're Not Gonna Take It". "All choices? If he ain't...he ain't down with Dee! 'We've got the right to CHOSE and there ain't no way we'll lose it! This is our life this is our song!'"

This is not the first time "We're Not Gonna Take It" has been used for purposes that have made TWISTED SISTED displeased. Back in 2015, Dee gave then-Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump permission to use the song on his campaign trail because they were friends. However, as the campaign raged on, Snider began to develop a greater understanding of Trump's ideology and changed his mind.

Dee was fired by Trump on NBC's "The Celebrity Apprentice" in 2013.

"We're Not Gonna Take It" has been used in commercials for hotel chain Extended Stay America, Claritin, Walmart, Stanley Steamer and Yaz birth control. The song was written solely by Snider.
