THE HIDDEN HAND To Release New Album In The Fall

May 5, 2004

THE HIDDEN HAND bassist/vocalist Bruce Falkinburg has issued the following update via StonerRock.com:

"We have been laying low in the woodshed for the past two months getting ready to record the next full-length due out on Southern Lord in the US in the fall and Exile on Mainstream in Europe. The record is being produced by none other than J Robbins of JAWBOX/BURNING AIRLINES and now CHANNELS fame. He has been a regular at Phase Recording Studio where we spend most of our time, and I have always been impressed by his attention to detail, drums sounds, and creative ability. We hired him to produce the tune 'Rebellion' for the Crucial Blast compilation, and it was a great experience. Thus he will be at the helm as we embark on this next studio voyage. For once I get to play bass and sing instead of engineering AND playing.

"It will probably be a combination of crazy analog live vibe (like the WOOLY MAMMOTH split 'Night Letters' due out soon on McCarthyism, Exile on Mainstream, and Meteor City) and a stricter 'grid' Protools production like 'Rebellion', depending on the song. The songs are diverse and were all written in the last two months of constant jamming, recording, and refining. The vibe is a bit more melancholy and moody, for the most part, but I will avoid further categorization until the disc is mastered. John Bauman, the upstart tattoo artist from Little Vinnies in Finksburg MD, who did our last round of posters and t-shirts, has been commissioned to do the art. I am looking forward to this. One song might be about whales, and one is definitely called 'Half Mast'. Go figure.

"Upon completion of the record we dive straight into rehearsals for Emissions!! We are playing on Saturday this year. See you there. Save us a room or two.

"We will be doing a local DC gig at The Warehouse Next Door on Weds. May 26th with BISON and OSTINATO to break in the new material and make sure our gear is Emissions-worthy. Should be a moody, trippy, and heavy night.

"Beyond that, Dave is heading off to Europe on May 31st to tour with OSTINATO, and then Wino and I join him on June 17th to do three more weeks of touring. We return in mid-July and will probably do a short run of shows with WOOLY MAMMOTH to promote the split. (We will have vinyl 12" copies of the split at Emissions, featuring the tunes 'Five Points' and 'Welcome to Sunshine')

"Also look for the Crucial Blast comp with 'Rebellion' and the High Times comp (finally) with 'Falconstone' any day now.

"Further plans include a run up the West Coast in the late fall to promote the new album, and probably a run back up into the Northeast at the end of the summer. See you all at Emissions!!"
