THE ACCIDENT EXPERIMENT Singer Talks About Stepping Outside The Christian Rock Circle

Vocalist Pete Stewart (ex-GRAMMATRAIN, TAIT),who formed THE ACCIDENT EXPERIMENT with former P.O.D. guitarist Marcos Curiel, recently spoke to The Times Record about stepping outside the Christian rock circle with THE ACCIDENT EXPERIMENT's six-song "Arena" CD.

"For me, I was in the (Christian) industry for quite a few years, and it was when I was younger," Stewart said. "When I was inside it, I found it restricting, and it seems there's not really room to be expressive. There is a lot of pressure to live up to the image that sells Christian music.

"I try to incorporate my struggles and the human imperfections in my songwriting,” he said. "I want to be honest, and with (THE ACCIDENT EXPERIMENT),it turns out we really love what we are doing. There’s no pre-thought structure on making something that sounds palatable to people. None of us are approaching this as getting a big single and going onto 'TRL'. We’re hoping the music will be timeless ... like U2."

Asked if he still held faith in religion, Stewart replied, "I'd say that I'm still searching, to be honest. I grew up in a strict conservative family. My father was a pastor, and the rules were very conservative. I don't have it all figured out yet, but I'm searching." [Read more]
