TEMPER: Former SPINESHANK Frontman Announces Hollywood Gig

April 9, 2004

TEMPER, the new Los Angeles-based band featuring former SPINESHANK singer Jonny Santos, will be performing at the Viper Room (8852 Sunset Blvd.) in West Hollywood on April 20. In addition to Santos, TEMPER's current lineup includes ex-THE FAMILY DOG members Matt Geiger (drums) and Rob Galvin (bass),plus relative unknowns Jeremy "Jermz" Harper (beat box) and Chris Darlinghouse (samples).

In related news, Santos recently gave an interview to Kirsty Lingman in which he discussed his decision to leave SPINESHANK.

"It was something that was definitely a long time coming, it was definitely a decision that I made on my own, it was very amicable," he said of the split. "It's kind of like you saw the end of the road coming, the horse was dying and there was no need to kick it, but it definitely wasn't a decision I made overnight. For lack of a better term, it was something I had to do to follow my own heart.

"It was definitely etched in stone on the last European tour when we were out with ILL NINO and CHIMAIRA, which was a great tour, [but] it still didn't change the fact that I knew it wasn't right for myself anymore and I don't think it was right for the other guys either."

Regarding the reasons for the split, Santos said, "I think it was a combination of a lot of things. It came down to creative differences, personal differences…. It got to a point where we almost couldn't work with each other anymore. They had a vision of what SPINESHANK should be and I had a vision of what SPINESHANK should be …and they didn't meet half way at all.

"I started playing music because it was fun and it was an outlet for me, it made everything better for me and once that started not being better for me then I saw a problem. I felt at certain times that my hands were being tied behind my back in the band as far as being a vocalist and a lyricist." Read the rest of the interview here.
