SYSTEM OF A DOWN's SERJ TANKIAN Discusses His 'Teetering On The Edge' Art Exhibit (Video)

February 10, 2019

SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian talked about his work, music, art and his passions during his show at The Vivian Gallery in Matakana, New Zealand. Check out the question-and-answer session below. The "Teetering On The Edge" exhibit is being showcased from February 2 until March 17. This selection of recent work includes a series of editioned and hand-finished unique signed prints.

Tankian's art is as powerful and edgy as his music.

Known primarily as the lead singer of the Grammy Award-winning Armenian-American hard rock band SYSTEM OF A DOWN (boasting sales of over 40 million records worldwide),Tankian's journey as an artist is long and varied.

From being the frontman in his band, a renowned singer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist, to composing film scores and being an active human rights campaigner, his art practice has become an important aspect of his creative output. But his calling back to his Armenian roots, and the tragedies and celebrations around it are never far away.

Powerful, thoughtful and bold, Serj's visual works and corresponding musical scores allow guests to have a multi-sensory experience and "hear" a work of art, just as he intended when beginning his journey into fine art beginning in 2013.
