SYSTEM OF A DOWN Prepare To Enter Studio

July 7, 2003

SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian has finished writing more than two dozen songs for the group's next album and will join the rest of the band for rehearsals later this summer, according to Billboard.com. The as-yet-untitled effort will be co-produced by Malakian and Rick Rubin, who has worked with the group on their three previous releases for his Columbia-distributed American Recordings imprint. An early 2004 release is expected.

The band's last studio album, 2001's "Toxicity", debuted at No. 1 on the album chart and has sold 3.1 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN will make their only performance appearances of the year at the U.K.'s Reading and Leeds festivals in late August. Those events will be headlined by METALLICA, BLUR and LINKIN PARK, and feature an array of electronic and rock acts.
