A 22-year-old man who jumped off a bridge during SLAYER's headlining show at the Metaltown festival in Gothenburg, Sweden died at a local hospital late Sunday night, reports GT. When paramedics found him unconscious after almost 15 minutes in the water, he was bleeding from his nose, mouth and ears. The Göta Älv bridge (photo), which runs over the river of the same name, is located just opposite the Metaltown main stage and a lot of people stood on the bridge and watched the festival performances from a distance. SLAYER was about an hour into its show Saturday night (June 30) when the 22-year-old man and a friend stripped down to their underwear. As the crowd cheered on, the two counted down and were about to jump off when one of them decided not to go through with the "joke" and watched as his friend hurled himself from the 30-meter-high bridge. When the jumper didn't resurface, his friend screamed for someone to call the emergency number 112. The jumper was later found unconcious in the water and medical personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him. He was rushed to the emergency room where he died Sunday. "It was a horrible experience. People were standing there crying after it had happened," a witness told GT. Earlier Saturday night, several other people also jumped from the bridge. It is unclear if any of them sought medical attention. In addition to SLAYER, Metaltown featured performances by MACHINE HEAD, MASTODON, ENTOMBED, ILL NINO, MARDUK, MESHUGGAH and CANDLEMASS, among others.
